  • When We Destroyed the Gaspee, by James Otis Kaler (1901):  Boston, D. Estes & Co. Library of Congress # 01018525.  Hard to find, but we have it on-line!  By the author of Toby Tyler Joins the Circus series.
  • In Defense of Liberty:  A Story of the Burning Schooner Gaspee in 1772, (c1908): by William Pendleton Chipman.  New York: A. L. Burt Co.  280 pages. Part of the "Navy Boys in Defense of Liberty" series.  Library of Congress # 08010281.
  • "The Burning of the Gaspee", by George H. Coomer, fictional article published in Ballou's Monthly Magazine, Vol 27, Feb 1868, page 162
  • The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, H. P. Lovecraft (1927):  Passing references to the incident, but great characterizations of many of the crew that burnt the Gaspee, caught-up in a horror thriller in 1771. Book review by Weldon Whipple of  Analysis by Barton L. St. Armand in Rhode Island History, Jan. 1972.
  • The Shunned House, H. P. Lovecraft, (1926): Again, passing references and characterizations amidst a haunted house. Both of these Lovecraft novels can sporadically be found on-line by searching for the titles and author with Google.
  • Rogue's Wager by Thomas G. Briody (1995):  Murder mystery with the Gaspee Days Parade at the climax.
  • "The Log of Matthew Roving", Naval History Magazine, serial, (beginning Oct 2000):  Chapter 2.  Boy travels back in time to the age of sail and the attack on the Gaspee
  • Rise to Rebellion, Jeff Shaara (2000). Great historical fiction about the men and events that led our nation to independence, includes the Gaspee Affair.
